Together with our
friends and relatives, we've gathered a few area tips that we think
will make staying at Kahana Sunset even more enjoyable. If you have
any to add, please e-mail us.
Whale
Watching
During whale season
(November to May), the humpbacks are everywhere (breeding in the warm
Maui waters). Moms, dads, and little ones are splashing all around--viewable
from our condo of course. But, if you really want to get out
and see them up close, we recommend the Pacific
Whale Foundation's whale watching tour, out of Lahaina. They give
great insight during the trip, it's inexpensive, and you'll see lots
of whales. Ever listen to a whale before? Here's
a sample.
Barbecuing
at Kahana Sunset
While it may be
a mythical legend, we'd rather not tempt fate with this one...Any
time you decide to use one of the four public Weber gas grills on
property (great way to sear some fresh Ahi), be sure to bring a cocktail
of choice with you...you'll be praised by the cooking gods and your
meal will be perfect.
Sunset
Viewing at Kahana Sunset
No matter what
you do during the day at Maui, be SURE to get to Kahana Sunset for
the spectacular sunsets. (we didn't get the name for nothing). If
it's not completely cloudy expect a magical experience.
Ahi
is a Must
Hopefully you
like fish. If you do, you must go to Lahaina and buy some fresh Ahi
from one of the returning fishing boats, or stop by The Fish Market
on L. Honoapiilani Highway
toward
Lahaina.
Our
Favorite Local Eateries
Sushi & Everything -
Sansei - at Kapalua Bay. Wonderful
food & fun. Just about anything you want & lots of fish.
Gourmet
- Roy's - at the Kahana Gateway Center (by McDonalds). Location isn't
great but excellent food.
E & O Trading Company -- Great Southeast Asian food. It's kind of an inventive fusion type of cuisine. Go for the happy hour (4 to 6 p.m. daily). Located in the Cannery Mall next to Safeway, just blocks from the heart of dowtown Lahaina.
Fish &
Everything - Kimo's - on Front Street in Lahaina. Good food.
Vino - Italian Tapas and Wine Bar. That's right, they serve Italian tapas and have a huge, nicely-priced wine list. Need we say more? Located at 2000 Village Road, Kapalua.
A
Few Fun Things to Do
Take a snorkel
expedition on a catamaran to the island of Lanai. We went on the one
run by the Pacific Whale Foundation.
Bike down the
volcano.
Skyline Eco Adventures Zipline Tour -- This is an incredible adventure not to be missed. We know first-had because we did it! The tour starts with a walk through the woods in beautiful upcountry Maui. Then, your heart gets pumping (big time!) as you sail across each of the ziplines over waterfalls and vegetation.
